Our final stop on our Katy foodie adventure was the one and only Peli Peli, which opened up their 3rd location just over a month ago in Katy!
Peli Peli is the only South African fusion restaurant in Texas. Here you'll find flavors from South Africa with hints of other cuisines such as Asian, Dutch, and Portuguese. The restaurant is highly rated among all review sites and even highly regarded by locals here in Houston. And since we're in the midst of Houston Restaurant Weeks, I think it's appropriate to mention that they were the 2nd highest donor last year!
As we mentioned in our previous post, HRW is a great opportunity to go to some of these must-try restaurants for a good cause (win-win situation, right?), and the great thing about Peli Peli is that a lot of their most popular dishes are on their HRW menu! During our visit, we tried a wide variety of the menu and had come to the conclusion that everything on their menu is incredible - even down to their sweet potato french fries! I was absolutely floored by how much I enjoyed every single dish we got. I can go on and on about how good their food is, but for the sake of not making this post a unbearably long, I'll cut to the chase.
Parmesan cracker, fire roasted oysters, peli salsa, julienned peppadews, and fresh cilantro. (Offered on HRW Dinner menu)
Curried ground beef, carrot bredie, flaky pastry crust, and mango chutney. (Offered on all HRW Menus)
Basted filet, garlic herb butter, sauteed baby spinach, roasted red potatoes, and carrot bredie. (Offered on HRW Dinner Menu)
CAPE TOWN SKILLET
Tiger prawns, scallops, peli peli shrimp, mussels, sauteed calamari, and South African rice.
SHORT RIB SURF & TURF
Korean inspired marinated grilled short ribs, shrimp scampi, and spicy kudo seasoning. (Offered on HRW Dinner Menu)
STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING
Rich moist cake, homemade sticky toffee, and vanilla bean ice cream. (Offered on HRW Dinner Menu)
PELI PELI HOMEMADE CHEESECAKE
Chef Paul's Mother's recipe. (Offered on HRW Dinner Menu)
SCHNITZEL & DEEP FRIED WAFFLES
Deep fried waffles, bacon, chicken schnitzel, sunny side-up egg, and lyles syrup. (Offered on HRW Brunch Menu)
We highly recommend any and all of the above mentioned plates. Here's a HRW tip: grab a few friends to go with you so you try everything on the menu! Also be sure to check out the selection of South African wines from Peli Peli's private label!
