A few weekends ago, Love & Make, a new and trendy DIY pop-up in Rice Village, gathered Houston bloggers for their first Tastemakers Candle Making Workshop.

If you've been keeping up with our Instagram stories, you may remember that we shared a little about Love & Make on our weekly events posting and then a few weeks later during the actual workshop.

Side note: every Tuesday, we post a list of events going on that week. We recommend to take a quick screenshot so you can refer back to it throughout the week when you're looking for something to do with your friends and family! If not, you can always refer back to our blog here under the Events page.

I am now excited to tell you all more about Love & Make, as well as a complete firsthand account of the DIY workshop! Be sure to also scroll to the bottom to read about our exciting collaboration!

First off, a little about the creators of Love & Make... Amara and Bukola are sister-in-laws who had a passion for candle making and other DIY projects. Together, they embarked on this new venture to create fun and interactive crafting experiences. Their classes are great for couples and groups, and big news, they now offer workshops to make bath salts and bath bombs! And they now have a permanent space in Rice Village next to Le Peep!

So let's get into all the details of the candle making class!

Step 1: Stick the wick

Step 2: Secure the wick with the wick holder

Step 3: Choose fragrance oils

This is probably the most fun part of the process. They have tons of oils to choose from, and you'll get to mix and match different scents to produce a one-of-a-kind scent that suits your palette.

Step 4: Measure out the oils

This part is a science. You'll be using your brain a little on this one to calculate the exact amount you'll need for your candle.

Step 5: Measure out the soy wax

For the candle making classes, Love & Make only uses soy. It's the easiest material to work with in candle making and produces the cleanest burn.

Step 6: Heat up the wax

Step 7: Stir in the fragrance oil

Step 8: Wait for the wax to hit just the right temperature and pour the wax into your glass candle container

Step 9: After a full day, your candle will be ready for use!

Overall, we had such a great time learning how the candle making process works and shopping local artisan products set up in the pop-up shop. If you're interested in having your group in at Love & Make, check out their website here.

Classes are $50 and that includes all the materials needed to make one 8 oz and one 4 oz candles.
