Authentic Japanese Mochi and Matcha Pop-Up: Sweets Oyatsu in Daido Market

Houston’s matcha craze is real, and we’d be doing a disservice not to share this standout pop-up. Sweets Oyatsu is an authentic Japanese confectionery stand located in Daido Market and worth all the hype! They’re on Westheimer and specialize in handmade, small-batch sweets.  

Sweet Oyatsu’s offerings include mochi, dango, dorayaki, matcha cheesecake, and more! They specialize in mochi and we’ve got the reviews to back it up. We tried a few items, but the Strawberry Mochi stole the show. It’s simple—just a fresh, perfectly ripe strawberry and sweet red bean, wrapped in pillowy soft mochi. Light, not too sweet, and made with care! 

They also offer matcha and hojicha lattes whisked on the spot. Our cups came with our names written in Japanese, a much appreciated detail! Sweets Oyatsu also rotates in seasonal specials, so definitely keep an eye on their Instagram for announcements. We’ve got our sights set on the fig mochi, which makes its appearance when the season hits.
