If you’ve never tried Guatemalan food before, Sabor Chapin in Jersey Village is the perfect introduction—and if you have, this cozy mom-and-pop spot will remind you why the cuisine deserves way more love. As one of the few Guatemalan restaurants in Houston, Sabor Chapin is a true hidden gem that’s serving up authentic, home-cooked flavors in a warm and welcoming setting.
The menu is full of traditional dishes that highlight the heart of Guatemalan cooking—hearty stews, grilled meats, masa-based snacks, and plenty of soul. You’ll find pupusas, caldo, parrilladas, and an impressive mariscada (seafood soup), all prepared with care and packed with flavor. One of our absolute favorites was the Garnachas, a crispy, savory bite layered with seasoned meat, pickled cabbage, and a touch of sauce that brings it all together. Every dish we tried hit the mark.
Beyond the food, Sabor Chapin also has a full bar, which means your meal can be paired with a cold Guatemalan Famosa beer, a refreshing agua fresca, or one of their margaritas or micheladas. It’s a great spot for a laid-back dinner.
What makes this restaurant even more special is the sense of pride behind every plate. You can tell it’s run by people who genuinely care about sharing their culture and food with the community. It’s comfortable, unfussy, and full of flavor—exactly what you want from a neighborhood favorite.
If you’re looking to try something new or simply want a great meal outside the usual rotation, Sabor Chapin is worth the trip. Come hungry, bring a friend, and don’t leave without trying the Garnachas!
