We finally tried padel for the first time, and we couldn’t have picked a better place than TEMPO—Houston’s first and largest open club dedicated to both padel and pickleball! Tucked away just off the beaten path, this place blends sport, social energy, and chill vibes into something totally unique and genuinely fun.

If you haven’t played it yet, padel is like a mix between tennis and squash. It was our first time stepping onto a padel court, so we were a bit nervous—but the coach made it feel way less intimidating. TEMPO has experienced coaches available for members who want to get serious or simply improve their game, and ours was incredibly patient and encouraging.

The club itself is beautiful—five padel courts, four pickleball courts, all surrounded by trees that make the space feel like a hidden retreat. It took a little extra effort to find it (look for the narrow alley and drive past a few other businesses), but once we arrived, it felt like we had stumbled into our own little sports hideaway. The vibe is tropical, with a great patio for post-game hangs, a bathroom and water station for breaks, and even a food truck for when hunger hits.

What really surprised us was how much more TEMPO offers beyond the courts. After playing, we cooled down with a cold plunge and hit the sauna—yep, they have both. Then we grabbed drinks at the lounge and bar, which is the perfect spot to hang out after a game or catch up with friends. The whole space is laid-back but thoughtfully designed, and the staff and coaches are incredibly welcoming.

They’re big on building community, and it truly shows. First-timers get a free padel and pickleball reservation, plus a complimentary intro padel class—which makes it even easier to jump in and give it a shot. We left feeling recharged, a little sore, and already planning our next visit!
