We finally made it to Chicken Kitchen in Rice Village, and we’re honestly kicking ourselves for not going sooner. This neighborhood gem has been serving up juicy rotisserie chicken, wraps, bowls, and salads since 2006—and it's the only location in Texas. Nearly two decades in, it’s still flying under the radar for too many people, but clearly not for the locals who’ve been keeping it in their regular rotation.
What stood out right away is the sense of community. Some of the staff have been here for 15 to 19 years, and it shows. There’s a warmth to the service that feels rare these days. It's a no-frills, fast-casual setup, but the food and hospitality go far beyond what you’d expect from a typical chicken joint.
Their menu is focused and fresh. We tried a bowl with rotisserie chicken, rice, and grilled veggies, with their famous Mustard’n Curry and Spicy Cilantro sauces on the side. It was both flavorful and filling. If you’re in the mood for a bigger spread, the #1 Whole Chicken Family Meal is a steal at $25—you get eight pieces of chicken, four sides, two pita breads, and four signature sauces. Perfect for an easy dinner or group lunch that doesn’t skimp on quality.
Students, take note: show your student ID (from any school, including Rice, UH, and more) and you’ll get 10% off your order. It’s an easy go-to for budget-friendly, healthy meals that don’t feel like a compromise.
They also offer catering and local delivery, which makes them a solid option for office lunches, parties, or last-minute family dinners. The food travels well, and the portions are generous.
Chicken Kitchen might be tucked away, but after nearly 20 years, it’s earned its place as a Rice Village staple. If you haven’t been yet, this is your sign to go. Grab a bowl, ask for both sauces, and thank us later!
